Prof. Eme Onuoha Awa was born to Nna Onuoha Awa (Obumini ala ogu) and Nne Uzoma Onuoha Awa in 1921 of nobility as a member Ibobobi maternal kindred, Amaekpu Ohafia. He attended the Presbyterian Primary School now Ohafia Central School with honours, Hope Waddle Training Institute, Calabar, University of Pennsylvania, and University of New York. He was one of Nigeria's foremost Professors of Political Science. He taught Political Science in the Universities of Ibadan, Lagos and in the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
He served in so many Boards, especially Rubber Board. He was a member of the Local Government Reforms of Nigeria. He later served as Director of Studies at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies. He was member of the Political Bureau in 1986, and as the Chairman of the National Electoral Commission (NEC) between 1987-1989. Also a member of African Leadership Forum, also a member and trustee of Transparency International (Nigeria).
He wrote so many books: Federalism in Nigeria which he dedicated to all Ohafia people, Issues in Federalism, Emancipation of Africa, and the forthcoming; My Journey to Nigeria- His Memoire and a titled Chief of Ohafia: Omere Oha fuzo of Ohafia.
Professor Eme Awa was married to Mrs. SPK Awa and they are blessed with three children: Uzoma, Eme and Nwachukwu. Prof Eme Awa died on 11th March, 2000.
