The ancestral home of Amaekpu remains at Nde Ofali. The People gather at Okpocha Square to take important decisions concerning the community. There are presently seventeen compounds in Amaekpu.
Amaekpu historically was made up two sections – Imeogo and Utugauzo all deferring to one Ezieogo. Imeogo was further subdivided into two, Amukwa and Amankwu. During the colonial era, Utugauzo was further subdivided into two: Amaoba and Utugauzo (Ngodo). These formed four villages, each of whom had a village head to aid in colonial administration: Ezie Amukwa (from Nde Edike), Ezie Amankwu (from Nde Odike), Ezie Utugauzo (from Nde Uma Aja), and Ezie Amaoba (from Nde Nkole). Presently three subdivisions are recognized, all of whom are subservient to Ezieogo Amaekpu. These are Amankwu, Amukwa, and Utugauzo.
