At the end of the Nigerian civil war ADU leadership was reconstituted with the Rev. Awa Ugbaga as the President. A four-year development plan was drawn by ADU, one of such programme was the extension of pipe borne water inland. The other was the continuation of electricity projects in Amaekpu abandoned as a result of the Nigerian civil war. The extension of electric poles inland was on the agenda. Inand referred to Ime-Ogo. Imeogu comprised of AMANKWU and AMAUKWA. Pipe borne water had earlier been provided by an age grade known as UNION in the 1950s as their Otomu project. One of the prominent members of UNION Age Grade was Late Justice Kalu Anya. At the time the Union Age Grade handed over their project to Amaekpu, there were only three points where the taps were positioned. The taps were at station close to Obimba Hall, Ngodo at front of Nna Johnsons house opposite Ngodo Compound. The last one was at Ugwu Mission where the present Cooke filling station is built.
As would be expected, the three points were insufficient for a growing community like Amaekpu. The ADU therefore took the responsibility of providing more points. To achieve that objective One Hundred and Eighteen pipes (118) were procured, and laid from Ugwu mission to Ime Ogu through Amafia. On the whole additional Nine Points (9) were created. This development was a great relief to the community who had depended on streams and Rivers like Otuobiribiri, Iyi Otisi, Ibuobuo, Iyia Nna Nwafor for their source of drinking water. With the additional provision of more points, some prominent individuals started making connections into their private homes. According to Mr. D.N. DIKE, the former Secretary General, he said he was privileged to connect pipe borne water into his private residence because one of the newly laid pipes in 1975 was close to his house. Many other people also availed themselves of that opportunity.
Unfortunately, some of these laudable achievements by ADU have been eroded by the sands of time.
It should also be noted that labour was through communal effort. Age Grades were always willing to direct their members whenever ADU made such request. For instance, the Age Grade members supplied the labour for laying of pipes for the extension of pipe borne water to other parts of Amaekpu.
