Early ADU Achievements

The union has made significant achievements since inception in the 1920’s.

  1. Settlement of disputes especially the chieftaincy disputes in the 1940’s between UMUEKPE and UMU-OBOBI.
  2. Settlement of land disputes, though land dispute in the 1940’s where few and far in between settlement of land banding dispute between Amaekpu and Okagwe.
  3. Awarding scholarship to the brilliant and exceptional Amaekpu sons and daughters. Some of the prominent Amaekpu sons and daughters who benefited were Pro. Eme Awa, Dr. Agbai Njoku and Mrs. N. Agwu who was the headmistress of Ofali Agwu primary school for many years. However, in the award of scholarship to these students, Ohafia was involved.
  4. ADU established Ohafia Girls Secondary School in 1972 which before then served as a craft centre before the Nigerian Civil War. ADU established and equipped Okpocha primary school in 1978.
  5. The union constructed the civil centre located at Ugwu, which also served as a prayer Hall in the 50’s. The same building presently houses the Presbyterian church of Nigerian, Ugwu parish.
